Equivalent Exchange
27 March 2010 - 15:04
Equivalent exchange is about getting the amount of return with that amount of effort put in.
But does it apply to this world?
Newton's Third law of motion states that "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." In the past, we believe our hard work will be paid off if we put our heart, mind and soul into anything. We have seen many accounts of successful people who have slogged their life away to achieve the status that some of them thought it was totally impossible. We admire and are indeed greatly inspired by their strengths and sacrifices they made to see the fruits of their labour.
If not for their great determination and quick thinking, the amount of sweat and blood they poured could not have transformed their cold solid stones into precious jewels. These are the people we salute and should be given a pad on the back and say, "Well done." They have fulfilled the principal of equivalent exchange and Newton's Third law of motion. Congratulations.
However, as humanity evolve and the world is largely occupied by heavy concrete walls, there are also a small group of people who happen to have lady luck on their side and strike at the right moment to collect the mile of gold which could have taken them ages to gather. We are talking about investors, who fall into the categories of stocks and properties - fanatics. The principal they follow in life, "Work less and gain much more."
We can't deny that those who succeed did not put in effort in doing their homework, understanding the market and picking up useful investment tactics. But their success is just too edgy for some of us to swallow. Maybe we are just jealous or too narrow minded to accept them. But there are a few sloths who we feel are so undeserving of such award. If we had a thunderbolt in our hands, at least more than half would have been strike by us.
What about inheritance? These are the lucky few who had the opportunity to fertilize and cultivate the legacy that was left by their past successors. As a bystander, I can't judge or even comment on the amount of effort they have put in to keep the ball rolling. But, does the principal of equivalent exchange apply in any of these area?
Let us not forget the bootlickers and sweet-talkers who made their way through promises and words they never meant to be. These people are also great dedicators who shift the work to you without you knowing how and when it happen. We just do it without question ask. The best part is we don't get recognize for our hard work and we get cast aside.
This could seem to be like an old grandmother whining and cursing the evolution of humanity. Rattling under her edgy voice that the world is unfair and injustice. Can we rebel? Do these people owe us an explanation or some words of comfort? Maybe all we can do is to grit our teeth and move on as if life is meant to be that way after-all.
